Today, Rep. Elaine Luria (VA-02), released the following statement after President Biden's State of the Union address:

"President Biden made clear tonight in his State of the Union that Vladimir Putin and Russia will continue to pay a steep price for the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Putin has manufactured this global security crisis with his unjustified attack on Ukraine's sovereignty, and the United States and our Allies will continue to take action to weaken and isolate Russia. The United States, our international partners, and Allies stand firm with Ukraine, and both parties in Congress must come together in the face of this Russian attack and continue providing military and humanitarian assistance to the people of Ukraine.

"Veterans who have been exposed to toxic substances during their service to our country have suffered for too long, and I applaud the President for prioritizing the health of our veterans tonight in his speech. Veterans have earned their right to accessible health care, and I join the President's commitment to ensure that our veterans get the medical services and benefits they are entitled to.

"The President must emphasize defense spending to provide our military with adequate funding. As Russia attacks Ukraine and China continues its aggression in the Pacific, we cannot ignore the threats we face, and we must act. An increase in defense and national security spending will better prepare the United States to defend ourselves and our interests while sending a strong message to the world that we will not back down under difficult circumstances. I look forward to working with the White House and both parties in Congress to pass a budget and fully fund our armed services."
